What Exactly Causes Acne
Acne is a skin condition that affects up 90% of the population to some degree. It can end in youg adulthood for most people but commonly starts during adolescents. Acne affects an individual due to many, many reasons but a large number of them can be becasue of some basic factors. Acne is the result of blocked pores and follicles in the skin. Follicles get clogged and become infected in a very short time. Also, the release of hormones in the body can bring on a case of acne. These hormones are first starting to be released in adolescents and this is why acne usually accompanies this first stage of young adulthood. Acne always occurs in one of three ways and all of them can be remedied with proper skin care and in some cases medication.
The first type of skin irritation would appear as a circular pimple with a distinctively white top and results from acne and is known as a whitehead or closed comedone. In this case dead skin, bacteria and excess oils have clogged the pore. Another type of skin irritation associated with acne is the blackhead (open comedone) and this is similar to the whitehead except it is open to the air and the material that is blocking the pore has oxidized and gives the appearance of being black. Some people have the mistaken impression that a blackhead is actually dirt clogging a pore and this isn’t correct. The third type of skin irritation that acne can produce is a cyst. These are more serious and occur when the cell wall is damaged and allows bacteria to infect the skin below the surface. These can be larger than both the whitehead and blackhead and can be fairly painful. These cysts should be treated gently and may require a visit to a dermatologist if they are severe. The reason for this is that while a whitehead and a blackhead are uncomfortable, they usually respond to minor treatment. One typical reason for scarring after acne is when a cyst penetrates more and larger areas of skin. Antibiotics prescribed by a dermatologist can prevent this and minimize infection.
Another cause of acne seems to point to heredity. Studies have revealed that family members carry a hereditary link between acne duration and initial occurrence. Although changing your family history is impossible know about acne in your family’s past will help you to act sooner in order to control the acne situation.
While the treatments for acne varies between individuals, the combination of certain cleansers to unclog the pores coupled with a topical solution of benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria seems to work for most people with mild acne. Dermatologist treatment together with medication is a common solution for acne. Simply washing the affected area with a mild cream after washing with a mild soapy solution is still regarded as the best acne solution ever. The are a wide variety of natural treatments for acne that a large number of people agree are more effective and gentler on the skin.
