Is it okay to leave hair in a bun .. ?

Okay, so I saw this YouTube video of a girl that if she wanted to grow their hair, they keeps it in a bun for these about a month and it grows an inch. Of course she is washing her hair, when necessary, but if they wake up would, they would not touch it bun when her hair was a bit frizzy, it would water and brush it on top. Is it safe to do with my hair? I'm biracial (half black half white) and I have very curly hair and it's about shoulder length and I want to grow my hair. Will it help it grow only by leaving them alone in a bun for a few months? Thanks.
